Science and beer are taking things up a notch in beer research. Soon your beer will be analyzed one sud at a time. As I was surfing, I came across sites that talked beer. So I said, "What the hell!"
Science is trying to keep beer fresher. Good idea for the most part. But I think if you drink something like Milwaukees Best as a regular, a stale Budweiser would seem fresh. Want fresh? Buy it from a microbrewery in a growler. Or learn to brew your own.
New theories about skunky beer. Since this was written in 2001, let me clarify theories about skunky beer at that time...more like 2000 since that was when I started surfing the 'net. Skunk usually occurs in green bottles. Heineken in the US always has that skunky smell. It does have to do with light and beer, but as far as I noticed, it never occurred in brown bottles. Astonishing, beer in 'clear' bottles such as Newcastle lacked the skunky smell. These are just arguments I have had with beer conoisseurs and afficionados in our studies and observations.
