Rising Fuel Prices
June 2nd 2008 19:56
With the worldwide rise in oil prices we may soon see a light at the end of the tunnel. That light may be an end to this insanity, or it may be an oncoming train. We'll see. We can blame our elected officials, the war, uncertain economics, and anything else we can conceive. Oil prices are sky high and we blame the profits of the oil companies. It burns me that when oil profits are discussed, people for the most part assume that it is one oil company making all those profits. That's a whole other discussion.
We tend to forget who truly regulates the price at the gas pumps. They are called OPEC and since 1973 have been using oil as a weapon. Perhaps to fund terrorism, but we all know that that is not true. If I were conspiracy-minded, I would think they were trying to restrict movement. But that is just wrong!
The fuel efficient Europeans are starting to get a bit hot under the collar as gas prices rise. If you really want to take a trip down memory lane before arriving to the present check this out!
Although it seems that the US is getting off rather easy, think again. It is hitting our economy hard as the price of everything goes up. We(as a whole) use more oil than Europe. The Euro is higher than the US dollar, and this is not really good news. It means Americans travel less and spend less, and Europe's tourism industry suffers immensly. Thus the lost is passed on to YOU! In the US they are 'nickle-and-dime'-ing us to death. That means they charge for everything and even if it is affordable it adds up!
The US also has domestic oil in many states although it is not enough to keep a nation running. Add the fact that environmentalists have a problem with drilling for oil because of an erroneous ideology about the impact on environment. Take it from someone who seen it work...before, after, and during the drilling the environment is not harmed and is left in better shape than before. In reality there might be accidents and such, but they are far and in between but are sensationalized by the media.
Nuclear energy is actually the perfect solution to the energy crisis. Spare me the argument because I know what the majority of peoples' feelings are about nuclear. Besides this belongs in another blog!
So lets blame who needs to be blamed for rising oil prices...OPEC! And yes, we are all caught in between a rock and a hard place. Trying to save is futile unless you don't have a job to go to. Otherwise who wants to walk or bike 10 miles to work through high crime neighborhoods? Finding an alternative fuel has proven to be inefficient or costly in the long run.
We need to find 'black gold' in alternative places even if bambi has to put up with the inconvenience. Otherwise just grin and bare it and quit whining!
