Hairstyle Ban
January 24th 2010 13:44
Muslim clerics in Indonesia are trying to ban women from getting 'funky hairstyles' such as perms or hair straitening. The Fatwa Commission has requested a fatwa banning deadlocks and punk styles. They admit there isn't any strong evidence that it will go through.
After the start of the war in Afghanistan, I read how women were killed if they had what are considered 'Western' hairstyles. I thought Muslim women were suppose to wear a Hijab? This would mean that it wouldn't matter what their hairstyle were except to their immediate family. Darn 'Western' freedoms!
This will be interesting if the fatwa goes through in Indonesia. Much like anything else in life, they will let it go for awhile and then enforce it with an iron fist.
