Heathrow's Homeless
June 2nd 2008 18:30
It has to be the pitts to be homeless. Most refuse shelters because of the true mental problem individuals that frequent there. Some choose to live under bridges, park bench, sewers, dumpster, etc., or anywhere where they can feel a little safe.
There are at least 100 homeless people that live at Heathrow Airport. Most by choice because it gives a sense of security and is like a 'free hotel!' The homeless have developed ways of dressing and acting like travellers to avoid detection by security. This becomes a game of cat-and-mouse.
In today's uncertain world economy, it's tough to know what tomorrow will bring. Loss of a job or other financial income can take one from a prince to a pauper real quick. I'd have to say that if the situation presented itself, an airport might make for a good shelter with amenities.
