In His Image

In Wikipedia's Freedom of speech versus blasphemy, we get an idea why religion and secular must not push their ideologies into the other's realm. Religious zealots and extremists have existed since organized religion was first founded. Fanatics tend to believe in a just cause in the name of their religious beliefs.
Once again there is a Muslim protest. Once again the protest has to do with using Mohammad. Although it isn't about an image, it's about a book. The novel about the prophet, made fanatics firebomb the author's house.
We all heard about the cartoons from Norway and what a worldwide furor they caused. The protests over the image of Mohammad has been going on for decades or century. In 1977, in Washington, DC extremists held hostages over a movie about the prophet, among other things.
Lets not forget the Supreme Court image. I said it before that I believe that fourth 9/11 aircraft was heading for that image. Ironically, Moses appears but not Jesus. I believe it may have to do that Moses and Mohammad wrote laws...even if they came from God. Jesus never wrote laws, only spoke them.
In a sense, I can see how images lead to idolatry. Being raised Catholic, there's an image for every god and saint. I actually do believe that 'holy' images have no business in state-run institutions. You know, separation church and state and all. In a secular society we need images of people from past history in order to humanize or dehumanize them. In religion, since there are no real images of God, Jesus, Mary, Mohammad, Moses, prophets, saints, etc., we just need to have faith that these people did what out holy books tell us.
Bringing Hollywood in the religious realm is just asking for trouble. After all when a controversial religious film is put out, the protests draw more audiences that otherwise would have just totally ignored it!
