India Needs Atheists

April 5th 2008 14:39
First of all, take a minute and read this post. Now maybe the title and this entry will make better sense. It takes place in a 'backward' village in India called Ranwatand.

Because a widow entered a Temple and put vermilion on her forehead, she was paraded naked through the village! The villagers gave her the right to a trial in their 'mob ruled' people's court. She at least got to keep her shoes around her neck. It's obvious that some women had a grudge of some sort.

As she was being paraded in the streets, paraders shouted slogans accusing her of practicing witchcraft and is responsible for a chicken pox outbreak. They also accused her of causing a woman's death with 'black magic'.

This would never have happened if the villagers were atheists!
